Many thanks to @Angela Janko for being a key contributor to this article.
Change is hard. People don’t generally like change, including us. Especially when the status quo is “just easier” to do. But: change is absolutely necessary to ensure that a startup continues to grow. Change is needed when processes are more “red tape” than helpful, and when tools become antiquated. In a start-up you live in a foggy environment; clarity is scarce. Change is needed so that people can understand their roles and work priorities more clearly, especially at scale.
Like many companies, our engineering team has experienced an increasing amount of change over the past two years. Not just due to COVID and learning a new way of working, but also some of the expected changes that all companies go through when moving from the start-up phase to a larger, scaled organization. These types of changes are part of the continued evolution along what we call, the Agile Transformation journey. Here is our journey in a single chart showing fantastic delivery progress as we made certain changes that we describe in the rest of the article, yes it is a bit long but it is worth it.
